Hiking Time: 5-6 hours.

Ascend to the desolate lunar landscape of the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi. Reach Kibo Hut and rest early in preparation for the summit night.

Altitude: From 4,703m to 5,895m (summit), descend to 3,720m.
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours ascent, 4-5 hours descent.

Begin the final ascent around midnight. Trudge up steep scree towards Gilman’s Point, then onto Stella Point, and finally, Uhuru Peak. After relishing the accomplishment, descend to Horombo Hut.

Altitude: From 3,720m to 1,860m.
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours.

The final descent takes you back through moorland to Mandara Hut, then into the rainforest to Marangu Gate. Here, successful climbers receive their summit certificates.

The Marangu Route offers a unique blend of comfort, gradual ascent, and scenic variety, making it an excellent choice for those new to high-altitude trekking. While it’s often perceived as the easiest route, climbers should not underestimate the challenge of reaching the summit of Africa’s highest peak.
