Favored by adventurous climbers, it offers a steeper trail and more varied terrain compared to the Marangu Route, making it a rewarding experience for those seeking a more demanding ascent.

Itinerary

Altitude: From 1,640m to 2,835m.
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours.

Start at Machame Gate, trekking through lush rainforest to reach Machame Camp. The path is steep, providing a good test of your physical condition.

Altitude: From 2,835m to 3,850m.
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours.

Ascend through the forest and emerge into the heath zone, reaching Shira Camp. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Kibo across the plateau.

Altitude: From 3,850m to 4,600m (Lava Tower), then down to 3,950m.
Hiking Time: 6-7 hours.

Trek to the Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp. This day is crucial for acclimatization, as you climb high and sleep low.

Altitude: From 3,950m to 3,995m.
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours.

Conquer the Barranco Wall in a challenging but exhilarating climb, then traverse valleys to reach Karanga Camp. This day involves some fun scrambling and fantastic views.

Altitude: From 3,995m to 4,673m.
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.

Ascend to Barafu Camp, the departure point for the summit. Rest and prepare for the midnight trek to the summit. The atmosphere here is tense but exciting as you anticipate the final ascent.

Altitude: From 4,673m to 5,895m (summit), descend to 3,100m.
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours ascent, 5-7 hours descent.

Begin the summit attempt at midnight. The climb to Uhuru Peak is steep and challenging but ultimately rewarding. After reaching the summit, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Altitude: From 3,100m to 1,640m.
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.

 The final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate is a time for reflection and celebration. Receive your summit certificates before departing.
