Itinerary

Altitude: From 2,360m to 2,820m.
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.

Begin at Lemosho Gate, trekking through the lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp. This gentle start is perfect for acclimatization and enjoying the natural surroundings.

Altitude: From 2,820m to 3,500m.
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours.

Ascend to Shira 1 Camp, crossing into the heath zone with expansive views of the Shira Plateau. The trek offers a gradual climb and stunning landscapes.

Altitude: From 3,500m to 3,840m.
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.

Trek across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp. This day is critical for acclimatization, with opportunities for short acclimatization walks.

Altitude: From 3,840m to 4,200m.
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.

Proceed to Moir Hut, nestled at the base of the Lent Hills. This lesser-traveled path offers tranquility and unique views of the mountain’s northern side.

Altitude: From 4,200m to 4,020m.
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours.

Traverse the remote northern slopes to Buffalo Camp. The route provides a sense of isolation and untouched wilderness, with stunning panoramic views.

Altitude: From 4,020m to 3,870m.
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours.

Continue around the northern circuit to Third Cave. The change in scenery is striking, as you move through different ecological zones.

Altitude: From 3,870m to 4,750m.
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours.

Ascend to School Hut, preparing for the summit push. Rest early in anticipation of the midnight start for the summit.

Altitude: From 4,750m to 5,895m (summit), descend to 3,100m.
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours ascent, 6-7 hours descent.

Summit attempt begins in the early hours. The climb is challenging but rewarded with a sunrise at Uhuru Peak. Afterwards, descend to Mweka Camp.

Altitude: From 3,100m to 1,640m.
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.

Complete the descent through beautiful rainforest to Mweka Gate. Here, successful climbers celebrate and receive their summit certificates.
